Grants to support patient or staff improvement - OPEN

We welcome applications from ESNEFT staff at all levels to the Charity to fund equipment and resources, quality improvements, innovative ideas, research, staff welfare and education, or to make improvements to the patient and staff environment.

The Charitable Grant Application Form is intended for requests that benefit the NHS, its patients, carers or staff across East Suffolk and North Essex acute and community health services.

The Charity welcomes applications for grants that meet the strategic objectives to:

  • Keep people in control of their health
  • Lead the integration of care
  • Develop our centres of excellence
  • Support and develop our staff
  • Drive technology enabled care
  • Reduce health inequalities

If your service doesn’t have a charitable fund, please submit your application and we will try to align it to a suitable available charitable fund or work with you to identify any potential external charitable funding. Grants to support research 2025/26 - CLOSED

Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity are proudly inviting applications from staff at all levels against a pot of £200,000 to fund research projects that aim to identify improvements in patient care across the Suffolk & North East Essex population, and perhaps beyond.

Before continuing to the application form, the Charity would like to make you aware of some essential criteria that apply to this grant:

  • The lead applicant must be employed by East Suffolk & North East Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT)
  • There is a maximum grant limit of £25,000 per project (no minimum threshold).
  • Clinical Trials of Investigational Medicinal Products (CTIMP)/Medical Devices need not apply.
  • Patient/Public Involvement (PPI) and links to Health Inequalities CORE20PLUS5 (NHS England » Core20PLUS5 (adults) – an approach to reducing healthcare inequalities), are essential.
  • Successful applications will be required to submit a full project plan.

Grants to support innovations - OPEN

The charity established the Gibbons Innovation Fund in 2020 and welcomes applications from ESNEFT staff at all levels to support innovative ideas.

Grants of up to £5,000 are available to support innovations. Please contact shane.jarvis@esneft.nhs.uk for further advice and support on your idea before completing the application form.

Grants to support financial wellbeing - OPEN

The charity established the Charity Benevolent Fund in 2022 and welcomes applications from ESNEFT staff who have been employed by ESNEFT for a minimum period of 12 months at the date of application .

Grants of up to £500 may be awarded where the applicant has experienced a change in their situation that means they cant afford to pay for the essential costs they are facing.

The eligibility criteria is fully set out on the charity intranet pages. Eligibility does not mean automatic entitlement to a grant, it is the eligibility to make an application for consideration. Eligibility for financial assistance from the Fund relates to genuine financial hardship.

This is a charitable grant where charity funds allow and does not form part of any employment rights.

Grants to support bereaved families - OPEN

The charity established the Charity Staff Funeral Fund in 2022.

Grants of up to £3,000 may be awarded. The grant is intended to provide the bereaved family with support in meeting funeral costs where a member of ESNEFT staff dies in service. The grant must be paid to the funeral director only - unfortunately our charitable objects do not allow us to make payments to the family.

This is a charitable grant where charity funds allow and does not form part of any employment or death in service rights. The ESNEFT death in service protocol should always be followed.

Line managers or HRBPs responsible for liaising with the bereaved family should please contact mandy.jordan@esneft.nhs.uk for further advice and support in relation to applying for this grant on behalf of the family.
